Job Description

DESCRIPTION

The Vascular Access RN manages all relevant vascular access consults through patient assessment, communication with patients and their families and various disciplines, priority-based planning, and efficient delivery of service. This primarily involves PICC insertions and any PICC related problem solving, and occasional IV insertions. Daily data gathering, inventory management, durable equipment cleaning and integrity assessment, supply ordering, and various administrative tasks may be required.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

  • RN License issued by the State of California.

  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD ART within six months of hire date.

  • Three (3) years of recent (within the last 4 years) adult acute care RN experience in a Vascular Access department, ICU, ED, IMU, IR, GI, Cath Lab, OR, or other comparable department.

  • Must have experience with ultrasound guided IV insertion.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management team and frontline staff from all disciplines.

  • Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.

  • Flexibility to orient and work at La Jolla and Hillcrest Hospitals.

  • Availability to work weekends and some holidays.

  • Ability to work 10 hours at a fast pace with long periods of standing.

  • Ability to transfer patients from chair to bed and reposition patients as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN.

  • PICC placement experience.

  • Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.

  • Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $123,902 - $173,659 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $59.34 - $83.17

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
