Overview

This position in  Dr. Edward Chouchani’s Labwill support scientific staff to carry out research activities by assisting in executing experimental protocols and procedures under the direction of lab manager or research scientist.

Responsibilities

  • Use learned technical skills to carry out laboratory tasks.
  • Facilitate research operations by carrying out tasks related to generating or maintaining research reagent materials including growth media for microbiological and cell culture work.
  • Monitor and maintain inventories of research reagents, prepare solutions and reagents needed to carry out experimental activities including generating sterile biological growth media. Assists with the maintenance of working amounts and archival laboratory stocks such as nucleic acid stocks and microbial strains and eukaryotic cell lines.
  • Uses lab equipment such as liquid handling robots for manipulating cells and nucleic acids, nucleic acid analysis and sequencing devices, autoclaves to sterilize media, and data acquisition equipment such as plate readers and image capture devices.
  • Carry out basic laboratory protocols required to complete experimental and computational projects.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook on a daily basis to document all experimental and preparative work.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0 years’ experience required
  • Successful completion of a research-related technical training course.
  • Completion of an in-lab training program at a recognized research laboratory or biomanufacturing facility, or equivalent experience working in a research laboratory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work with basic molecular and microbiological lab equipment or protocols, e.g., inoculation and growth of microbial strains and tools for nucleic acid analysis including gel electrophoresis, autoclaves to sterilize growth media.
  • Ability to work with computers required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques related to either molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to describe experimental work performed and summarize basic outcomes.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
