Position Summary

Under direction, the Accountant, Financial Accounting and Reporting position adheres to generally accepted accounting principles and performs a variety of professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling complex financial statements, reports, and reports. This position will be working with all areas of Business Services as well as other departments around the college as needed.

Financial Accounting

Performs Fiscal responsibilities for Financial Accounting and Reporting including journal entries, bank reconciliations, budget transactions, and daily cash flows. Creates manual journal entries and uploads entries into ERP system for departmental charges and budgets. Reconciles complex transactions. Summarizes financial positions. Performs analysis on general ledger accounts as needed and upon request. Assists upper management upon request.

Abides by federal, state and other statutory regulations, as well as College Policy and Procedure. Collaborates with accounts payable, cashiers and student accounting, grants accounting, budget, and other departments as needed to ensure that work is completed accurately.

Accounting Support

Ensures that College fiscal policies and procedures are followed. Collaborates with College departments to determine accuracy of general ledger accounts. Adheres to generally accepted accounting principles. Supports the Office of the Controller as needed.

Other duties as required.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Attends all required department meetings and training. Works overtime, as required to meet workload demands. Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Ensures College name and image is perceived positively by external as well as internal audience/stakeholders. Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee frequently sits for periods of time, stands, and walks. Employee converses verbally or manually with others in person as well as by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: advanced generally accepted accounting principles; fund accounting; general ledger management; accounts payable and receivable administration; graphical presentation of data; advanced understanding of how the College ERP system works; computers, software, including cloud applications, to include Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), accounting programs and software. Skill in: verbal and written communication; preparing financial reports; operating general office equipment working with detailed data; statistical data entry; application of job software including word processing and spreadsheets. Ability to: apply accounting principles; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts and general public; answer general and technical accounting questions; research and analyze financial issues; perform detailed work with numerical data; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records; read and comprehend technical information; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; problem solve effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in Accounting or closely related field of study with at least one year of accounting experience. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
