Job Description Summary

DEFINITION
Under the general direction of an assigned administrator, assist with all components of the specialized academic programs within the Community Engagement division which include, but are not limited to, providing specialized and technical assistance for division programs such as Dual Enrollment and the California Men's Colony program.

This role will provide specialized assistance to high school teachers and administrators, Cuesta instructors, employees, departments/divisions, students, parents, and the public associated with the Dual Enrollment Program. This assignment may include work and activities at any of the Dual Enrollment K-12 partner sites, California Men's Colony, and San Luis Obispo Community College District instructional sites.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Community Engagement Program Specialist position is distinguished from other positions in that it performs a variety of specialized duties for the Community Engagement Division, K-12 partner and California Men's Colony program instructors, staff and students, and external agencies. Incumbents are expected to deliver information and assistance related to the implementation of the assigned academic program with the ability to work under a minimum of supervision.

The incumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by assisting external personnel and organizations such as high school employees, California Men's Colony program employees, Cuesta employees, students, and the public to ensure they receive accurate information and assistance in an efficient and welcoming environment.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Implement the day-to-day activities for the assigned program within the Community Engagement Division;
Collaborate with internal and external personnel and organizations (e.g. K-12 district teachers, CMC employees, public agencies, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and programs under established guidelines and processes;
Assist in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating activities for Community Engagement programming such as promotion, outreach events and workshops;
Assist with the facilitation of industry specific academic pathway initiatives with external partners;
Present program information and refers students to support services as appropriate;
Schedule division personnel at program activities and special event activities (e.g., outreach events, in person support, career pathway development, etc.)'
Serve as a point of contact for external partners for successful and timely student enrollment and registration;
Assist with the training of and communication with external partners on matters related to registration, student enrollment status and associated changes;
Assist students with completion of student registration processes;
Serve as a point of contact for the assigned academic program within the Community Engagement Division in various formats (e.g., written, telephone, and face-to-face);
Maintain up to date program promotional materials, including program websites;
Perform customer service duties;
Apply policies, procedures, and practices of the Community Engagement division within the College with sound judgment;
Work independently with a minimum of supervision and communicate effectively in writing and orally;
Participate in professional development opportunities and activities/meetings both on and off campus, when possible and it does not interrupt the services at the instructional site;
Special duties/assignments can include, but are not limited to, assisting with, student training, providing support to other student services departments, maintaining inventory of site equipment, and providing faculty support;
As assigned by supervisor, train and provide direction and technical assistance to students and other employees in the Community Engagement division;
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Required

Associate's Degree;
Two years' experience in a support position in a high school or community college setting;
Preferred

Bachelor's Degree;
Two years' experience working with Program Specific student populations.

Knowledge of:
Outreach, promotion, and program recruitment;
Onboarding and registration procedures;
Objectives of student equity;
Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment;
District student and fiscal policies;
Record-keeping techniques;
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy;
Customer service skills;
Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
District policies and procedures.

Ability to:
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.

Physical ability to:
Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
Lift and/or carry (25) pounds; and
Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

License and Certificates:
Required

Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.

SALARY SCHEDULE
Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's bargaining agreement, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below. Salary Schedule Range: $4,555 - $5,536 per month.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,555 - $5,021 per month.
