The Department of Entomology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at the University of Arizona seeks a highly qualified and motivated Business Manager (0.75 FTE) to lead its business and financial activities. This position is responsible for managing all financial, business, administrative, and human resources functions in the department in accordance with University and college policies and procedures. The successful candidate should be an independent and proactive leader who can effectively communicate complex financial information to faculty, staff, administrators, and students. The expectations for business functions are high and the incumbent is expected to make continuous improvements towards strategic and operational goals.

The department is a vibrant working and learning environment. The department's funding is comprised of state, sponsored grant and contract, auxiliary, donated, unrestricted and allocated funding. Financial activities include long-term budgeting and projections, accounting, auditing work with internal and external auditors, purchasing, and financial compliance and reporting. The successful candidate must be able to perform in a dynamic environment with multiple deadlines and mission objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversees the development, planning, and execution of department budgets
  • Operates as a Business Partner with Unit head on all department planning
  • Monitors and reconciles all department accounts
  • Prepares financial statements/reports for Administrators, Faculty, Staff, and Students
  • Initiates, reviews, and/or monitors all financial transactions
  • Manages financial commitments and special allocations
  • Processes, monitors, and reports on scholarship activity and external awards
  • Advises departments, faculty, and staff on financial, research, operational, and University policies and procedures
  • Assists with audits to ensure compliance with regulations and policies
  • Assists with the execution of strategic plans, special projects, and initiatives
  • Reviews and approves grant proposals through UAccess Research
  • Reviews awarded grants and contract, and coordinates post-award compliance expenditures and reporting
  • Manages human resources functions such as hiring, payroll, performance reviews, and terminations
  • Maintains UA Vitae for Entomology
  • Supervises Office Staff and Student workers
  • Coordinates activities with Entomology faculty at Maricopa and Yuma Agricultural Centers
  • Serves on departmental and UA Committees
  • Manages UA Foundation Financial activities for the department
  • Establishes efficient business practices and keep informed of all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Additional Duties and tasks as necessary

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • Five years of related budget and accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient experience in all UAccess Systems
