Job Description

The Care and Wellness Consultant is a temporary administrative position reporting to the Associate Director of the Center for Student Support and Care and serves as a key member of the Center’s team. In this role, this Care and Wellness Consultant would focus on offering student support, non-clinical case management for students with mental health concerns, professional staff training, and consultation on student care and crises to students and staff. Similar to other CWC’s, this role would work to manage a variety of complex situations that may impact a student’s ability to function successfully in the University. In their work with students and with staff, they will help to facilitate a student’s access to, and appropriate use of, University and/or community services. While strong, supportive relationships may develop with students, a Care and Wellness Consultant does not engage in individual therapeutic relationships but instead acts a resource as well as supportive relationship. In their work with students and with staff, the Care and Wellness Consultant will possess a commitment to fostering developmental opportunities for students that are consistent with the mission of a Catholic university founded by the Congregation of the Holy Cross.

Case Management
• Provide non-clinical case management oversight for all cases involving students within respective colleges and schools.
• Provide individualized support and follow-up as needed.
• Assist students who self-refer in order to access support and assistance.
• Assist referred students in making use of University and/or community services and benefits.
• Maintain the electronic database of case management records.

CARE Team:
• Coordinate with the Support and Care team on students in need of higher level interventions.
• Coordinate and track CARE Team recommendations for referred students to ensure continuity of care.
• Lead conversations with embedded area staff regularly on student need and appropriate interventions.
• Elevate concerns to appropriate professional staff or community resources as necessary.

Recovery Support:
• Work with various constituencies to help students receive emergency care as needed.
• Provide support to psychiatrically hospitalized students and assist in transition and support post hospitalization.

Withdrawal and Readmission Processes:
• Assist with the support for any student withdrawing from the University.
• Specialize in the on-going support to students upon their return to campus.

Individual Responsibilities:
• Manage additional responsibilities that are distributed amongst the staff for the Center for Student Support and Care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s.
  • Experience managing crisis situations.
  • Experience working with college students in a campus setting.
  • Experience in case management and working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge about developmental, psychological, social and medical issues related to college-aged students.
  • Counseling, crisis management, and conflict management skills.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing federal regulations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and the development of multicultural competencies.
  • A commitment to the University’s Catholic identity and the ability to implement policies, programs, services and best practices that are consistent with the University’s Catholic mission, values, and teachings.
