We are searching for someone who shares the same passion and mission to join our dynamic team as the Production Manager with the College of Arts and Letters.

Job Description: The Production Manager has a vital role within the College of Arts and Letters, supporting multiple departments including Film, Television, and Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera, and Shakespeare. This position manages day-to-day production operations and oversees a production team of designers and shop supervisors directly supporting multiple productions throughout the year. Reporting to the Associate Dean for the Arts, the Production Manager’s top priorities will be:

Production Oversight
  • Coordinate, attend, and participate in production meetings; assist in developing ideas for various production events in collaboration with designers and directors; monitor the implementation of approved designs according to standard theatre practices.
  • Prepare and maintain the master calendar of events for all theatre facilities working closely with each department to meet all stakeholder needs.
  • Schedule performances and maintain current knowledge of professional protocols.
Budget Oversight
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration; work with the Associate Dean and Department Chairs to forecast and assess labor, equipment, materials, and staffing needs for theatrical events; submit requisitions for equipment purchases and rentals; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Prepare and submit a variety of statistical and narrative reports; prepare budget reports, annual recap data, special reports, proposals, recommendations, and other materials as requested.
Staff Oversight
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise full-time production staff.
  • Create and maintain production schedules ensuring staffing as needed.
Student Apprenticeship Oversight
  • Create and implement a student apprenticeship program that provides students credit while working on productions.
  • Coordinate with both designers and shop supervisors to provide an enriching experience for students where they could earn credit by working in the costume or scene shop or with a lighting designer. Ensure students are provided with training and educational opportunities

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • An MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in technical theatre or stage management
  • Minimum 5-6 years of management experience in technical production, events management, budgeting, forecasting, and personnel management.

Skills:
  • Supervisory skills
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, with a documented history of implementing new techniques and systems to improve accuracy and workflow
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

Other:
The scope of the job may require working evenings and/or weekends, particularly prior to openings of theatre production presentations.
