Position Description:

The Umatilla County Historical Society is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, established in 1974. Its mission is to collect and preserve historical objects and stories unique to the Umatilla County region. It uses these objects and stories to strengthen present and future generations’ understanding of this history through exhibits and diverse programming.

The Executive Director of the Umatilla County Historical Society (UCHS) leads the organization under policies established by the Board of Directors. The Director is responsible for developing and administering the annual budget and working with staff and volunteers to carry out the organization’s mission. The Director is the liaison between the staff, board, and public. Together with the Board President, the Executive Director is the official spokesman for UCHS.

The Director should develop and maintain a high level of community visibility while promoting UCHS and its activities and establish and maintain relationships between the organization and other community groups to continue to raise awareness of its mission.

The Director is responsible for developing and carrying out an annual fundraising and grant writing strategy for UCHS, and writing grants in support of this strategy. They hire, supervise, and annually evaluate all staff, and are the liaison between UCHS and other cultural organizations.

Position Details: This is a full-time salaried exempt positionReports to: Umatilla County Historical Society Board of DirectorsSupervises: Museum staff, Community Thrift Store Staff, and Volunteers

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Understanding of the UCHS mission and ability to make decisions to support the mission and goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge and success with fundraising, grant writing and budgeting
  • Prior experience managing staff and facilities
  • Prior experience with non-profit

Much of this job is performed during regular business hours, however, there are also occasional evenings and weekends.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
