Position Summary

The Associate Dean of Apprenticeship is responsible for Apprenticeship programs serving more than 7,000 apprentice students, enrolled in 18 different apprenticeship trades, located in 5 different programs, and covering a geographic area from the Eureka in Northern California to Fresno in the Central Valley. The programs employ over 160 faculty/instructors. The program is expected to grow to meet the needs of business and industry employers.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP/COORDINATION
● Supervising day-to-day operations and implementing strategic planning and leadership initiatives in support and development of the apprenticeship programs in the various trades and disciplines.
● Strategic planning and leadership, administrative oversight, and overall programmatic direction for the American River College Apprenticeship Program.
● Providing leadership that drives the program to achieve developed and stated college and apprenticeship strategic priorities.
● Assuring instructional environments are regularly assessed and perceived as high quality while meeting state and federal regulations and college accreditation standards.
● Analyzing various data sets to develop and implement strategic programming and course scheduling with the goal of supporting the apprenticeship sites, maximizing revenue, and assuring course development and implementation.
● Developing instructor assignments and class schedules to meet student needs.
● Developing curriculum in the instructional areas.
● Supporting the advancement of the college apprenticeship sites through the development and delivery of services reflective of the sites’ and college’s shared academic mission, vision, and values.

COLLABORATION/TEAM BUILDING
● Collaborating with Site Administrators, faculty, and regional business leadership partners to identify and implement strategies to develop and expand the programs to meet community and business needs.
● Facilitating a collaborative model and participating as an active leadership member with site administrators to ensure the development and implementation of a shared vision and mission as directed by the site directors and staff.
● Collaborating with professional businesses and industry partners, and community organizations to build, maintain, and develop strategic partnerships and ensure program currency.
● Participating in regional trade site and union events, work groups, and activities where appropriate.
● Coordinating with the sites to conduct faculty evaluations.
● Working closely with apprenticeship site administrators, faculty, and staff of the program trades and disciplines to ensure program goals and objectives are met.
● Liaising with apprenticeship sites.

PROJECT DOCUMENTATION/DELIVERABLES
● Monitoring and assuring apprenticeship programs and site compliance with state and federal regulations, college policies, apprenticeship requirements, and specific industry licensure and certificate requirements.
● Overseeing the preparation and ongoing analysis and processing of the program budget, revenue, and expenditures including data collection and reporting.
● Developing budget recommendations and facilities utilization plans.

TRAINING/STAFF DEVELOPMENT & SUPERVISION
● Developing instructor assignments and developing class schedules which meet student needs.
● Assuming leadership and responsibility for curriculum development and evaluation in the instructional areas.
● Understanding of and commitment to equity and social justice through equity-minded education and training, transformative leadership, and community engagement.
● Hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.

● Performing other duties as assigned.

The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus work and/or hours.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution completed by July 1, 2021.

2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
