Job Title: Financial Aid Technician (Temporary)

Reports To: Financial Aid Manager

Status: Full time/ Temporary / Non-Exempt

Salary: $16.12 per hour

SUMMARY: The Financial Aid Technician will perform a variety of services in the financial aid areas for students and provide support to the Financial Aid program. The position requires thorough knowledge of student financial aid programs at the Federal, State, Tribal, institutional levels: including fundamental purpose of programs as well as eligibility requirements, guidelines, and regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Advises students on Federal and State educational program and financial aid benefits, applicable rules regarding the use of said benefits, academic progress policies, and institutional policies regarding the application of such rules.
  • Collects, evaluates, and verifies financial aid data and documents submitted by students.
  • Processes student financial aid and/or scholarship award packets, which includes: verifying student eligibility for applicable Federal and State aid programs.
  • Performs a variety of administrative support activities in support of office operations, which includes: updating and maintaining forms and records; maintaining and updating data in external systems; and performing related duties.
  • Prepares a variety of correspondence including award letters, applications, records, and/or other related documents.
  • Researches current State and Federal regulations to keep up-to-date and determines the application of regulations to specific student circumstances.
  • Apply scholarships and view student’s ISIRs in PowerFAIDS and run reports from the software.
  • Adheres to strict confidentiality of student records and finances in compliance with FERPA.
  • Performs other duties of similar nature or level.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate in any field; and two to three years of Higher education experience.

Additional Consideration May Be Given To Individuals with the Following Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
  • Knowledge and understanding in the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Arizona Driver’s license with no DUI's or major traffic offenses within the past year.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Financial Aid procedures and practices;
  • Financial Aid advising practices;
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment;
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes;
  • Basic filing and recordkeeping principles;

SKILLS:

  • Processing financial aid applications;
  • Advising students, faculty, staff, and/or parents;
  • Providing excellent customer service;
  • Operating modern office equipment;
  • Interpreting and applying applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards;
  • Maintaining files and records;
  • Maintaining confidentiality;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Ability to prioritize and to effectively handle multiple projects with attention to detail while
  • pressure to meet deadlines; Working with other tribal entities such as Scholarship Offices, Higher Education Offices, Workforce, and Department of Economics.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.
