Postdoctoral Associate in Sensor and Data Fusion

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE IN SENSOR AND DATA FUSION, Aeronautics and Astronautics-Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment (LAE), to apply sensor and data fusion expertise to mitigate aviation’s environmental impacts, by avoiding condensation trails (contrails), which have climate impacts similar in magnitude to aviation CO2 emissions. The role involves independent research activities in Bayesian data fusion and remote sensing applied to real-time satellite data.  Key responsibilities include contrail prediction and avoidance; publishing findings; mentoring graduate students; collaborating to advance contrail understanding, quantification, and mitigation; and assisting lab leadership with group projects and sponsor communications.

LAE aims to reduce the contrail-related environment impacts by advancing avoidance technology through integrating data from various sources.  It envisions a green aerospace sector benefitting humanity by striving to understand and minimize the environmental impact of aerospace technologies.
