DESCRIPTION

Hillcrest Medical Center's 9th floor is an 18 bed Progressive Care Unit, 6 of which are in direct-observation room for patients on intermediate level of care (IMU) and/or medical-surgical patients with cardiac monitoring (telemetry). The unit cares for a diverse patient population under the Medicine service. The nurses in this unit manage patients with wide range of medical diagnosis including pulmonary, renal, hepatology and cardiac diagnosis but not limited to sepsis, pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, acute kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, gastrointestinal bleed, alcohol-withdrawal. The majority of the med-surg beds in the unit are long-term patients with challenging discharge disposition.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

  • RN License issued by the State of California.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Must have a minimum of two (2) year of recent acute care RN experience at the PCU, IMU, or step-down level of care or higher acuity.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.

  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN.

  • Specialty certification in critical care or progressive care nursing (PCCN or CCRN).

  • Critical care/Progressive Care training or equivalent; Critical Care Intern Program

completion by the San Diego AACN Chapter or completion of the UCSD PCU series.

  • Previous psychiatric RN experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of DSM V psychiatric diagnosis and plan of care/treatment; antipsychotic, anti-anxiety, mood stabilizers, antidepressants and other applicable psychiatric medications.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment.

  • Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII or CNIV level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $123,902 - $173,659 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $59.34 - $83.17

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
