About Westchester Community College:
Westchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Westchester Community College is more than just the county's largest educational institution. It is a living, breathing part of Westchester that goes beyond the influence of a typical college and affects the lives of all who enter its doors.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Adjunct Counselor-Admissions recruits students by informing prospective students/parents/guidance counselors of educational and vocational programs offered by Westchester Community College. This position serves to reach out to the community by visiting area high schools, community groups, and organizations, in order to meet with prospective students both individually and in groups to disseminate information about our college programs. The Adjunct Counselor organizes visits of students to the college, organizes and conducts campus tours, conducts information sessions, assists in coordinating and participates in on campus events such as Open House, Accepted Students Day, etc. and makes presentations regarding college courses and programs in order to encourage prospective students to consider WCC as a post- secondary institution. Additionally, s/he also performs a variety of projects assigned by the Director of Admissions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field and 3 years of professional experience are required. The successful candidate must possess knowledge of college courses & programs and technology as it relates to recruitment efforts (e.g.: databases, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.). The successful candidate must also be able to relate to students of traditional college age as well as non-traditional students of various ages and diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Communicating effectively in Spanish is strongly preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE: The work hours will vary, up to 28 hours per week. Evening and weekend hours will be required.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $44.43 per hour. No benefits.
