Position Information

Location Highland Campus
Note: Currently a remote position, but will require attendance at HLC and other campuses in the future.
Hours 19 hrs/wk between 9 am and 9 pm; M-Th semester schedules determined by course load with some weekend hours required.
Salary $24.25/hr

Criminal Background Check Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all Staff and Faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC's College Police department.
General Statement of Job

The Skills for Today's Jobs team encompasses a comprehensive employment preparation, job search, and digital literacy/fluency training program offering online and face-to-face group instruction coupled with individualized career coaching. Course content prepares students for successful transition to employment. Priority populations who face employment barriers are served by instructors with an aim toward increasing equitable employment outcomes and improving career trajectories. The program operates within ACC Student Affairs Career & Transfer Services. The position requires evening and weekend availability as needed to carry out the objectives.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Teach job search skills and techniques utilizing innovative teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population including, but not limited to, interactive video, online format, and other uses of technology.
  2. Instruct and prepare ACC's student body, including experiential learning candidates entering internships or apprenticeships, and members of the community who are re-entering the workforce or re-careering for employment aligned with backgrounds, interests, and credentials.
  3. Assess wants, needs, skills, and interests using various resources such as Focus-2, Career Coach, and other technologies.
  4. Devise, plan, and implement coaching strategies to support individuals facing employment barriers (age, disability, digital literacy/fluency, re-entering workforce after extended absence, exiting criminal justice system, socio-economic barriers, or other obstacles).
  5. Liaison and train internal stakeholders in order to integrate career readiness and job preparation throughout the student experience.
  6. Facilitate identification and monitoring of mentor, volunteer, internship, and employment opportunities that match students' needs.
  7. Coordinate services for students making referrals as appropriate based on individual need to address challenges and position students for optimal success.
  8. Coordinate job clubs and job fairs. Represent ACC career services in the community to promote the program, increase awareness, identify potential community partners, and outreach to priority populations.
  9. Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum through research and remain abreast of leading-edge job search tools and strategies.
  10. Plans and organizes lesson plans, research/reference materials, syllabi, and other learning aids.
  11. Compile data for program evaluation.

  • Experience with active learning methods and educational technology platforms.

  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Ability to communicate with students, colleagues, and others.

Technology Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, interactive video and online format technology, classroom, clinical, lab, or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college and high school levels.
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Knowledge of the digital application process, as well as software and platforms including Indeed, GlassDoor, Jobscan, LinkedIn, Big Interview, HireVue, Soft Chalk, Blackboard Collaborate, Webex, Kahoot, Purple Briefcase/Career Link, and Handshake.

Required Work Experience

  • One year paid experience serving adult learners, job seekers, and priority populations in one-on-one and/or group settings.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Familiarity with local industry is preferred.

Required Education

  • Associate degree.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree.

Physical Requirements

  • Instruction takes place in classroom, lab, or online.

ACC Benefits Overview

Full-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by Federal law.
