Position Summary

The Costa Lab at the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of a Research Staff Assistant to help with projects investigating the neural control of internal organs and motor function. Working closely with postdoctoral scientists in the lab and reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the candidate assists with ongoing experiments using genetic, circuit mapping, and classical behavioral approaches in a rodent laboratory. We seek a highly motivated, conscientious, and dynamic individual who is enthusiastic about a career in science. This is a full-time position renewed annually upon satisfactory evaluation of work performance.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform immunohistochemistry protocols, including sectioning of frozen samples, staining and imaging;
• Perform whole organ immunohistochemistry, clearing and imaging;
• Perform flow cytometry, including tissue preparation and staining of live cells;
• Perform animal manipulations, which may include post-operative monitoring, intraperitoneal injections, intravenous injections, blood collection, non-survival and survival surgeries in mice.
• Train mice on Classical and Operant conditioning.

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, or other related science is required.  Two (2) years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree is preferred but not requried.  Lab experience with rodent handling, behavior training, and histology is strongly preferred.
• The candidate must possess strong organizational skills, keep excellent notes, show sound judgment, and have a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation as well as the ability to work independently within a diverse and dynamic team environment.
