The Department of Medicine at Columbia University has an immediate opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Gulam Manji, MD/PhD. The position requires interest in oncology, immunotherapy, cancer genetics, and translational clinical programs with a focus on treatment resistance in solid malignancies.
The laboratory and clinical research efforts aim at identifying mechanisms of resistance to treatment with combination checkpoint blockade, and development of novel treatments/combinations and biomarkers, and identify novel targets for potential therapeutics.
Working with leading academic clinicians and basic scientists, the successful candidate will be at the intersection of genetics, tumor immunology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, and specimens from cutting edge clinical trials with the ultimate goal of developing novel treatments that can be rapidly translated into the clinic.
Candidates should have strong, relevant scientific experience. With guidance from the PI, responsibilities include but are not limited to: develop and implement quantitative multiplex tissue imaging technologies including multispectral immunofluorescence microscopy (Vectra) for translational research and advanced immunology studies in human pancreas tumors; establish ex vivo organoid co-culture systems; flow cytometry; immunohistochemistry staining and spatial gene expression analysis on paired biopsy samples from patients on investigational agents for a deeper analysis of the mechanisms being perturbed; and confocal microscopy. Prior post-doctoral experience in cellular immunology, multiflow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, cell culture work, and molecular biology, is required. Self-motivated and creative individuals with a track record in the field of immunology/tumor immunology and/or oncology, with relevant publications should apply. Successful candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, be willing to seek out grant funding from external sources and participate in grant writing to support independent research.
The candidate must be able to work independently in a very fast-paced environment, have the capacity to multi-task and be detail-oriented. The candidate must be able to generate and analyze data, troubleshoot assays, collaborate with other researchers and support publications in peer reviewed journals.
