Summary Description

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) of Columbia University seeks exceptional junior – and senior-level faculty members in the tenure track.

The positions are open to researchers interested in developing and applying informatics theory and achieving tangible benefits to health care and biology. Three particular foci are machine learning for healthcare, health information technology-based interventions to improve health care, and translational bioinformatics research that links our clinical and computational biology strengths.

Minimum Degree Required

The candidate must have a doctorate in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Computational Biology, or a related computational or health field. DBMI is especially interested in recruiting informaticians with a medical degree.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of accomplishments and publications in research areas spanning the boundary between life sciences and the computational sciences. In addition, senior candidates will have a strong record of funding. The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience.

DBMI is an interdisciplinary department, comprising 45 faculty members and 50 students and postdoctoral fellows. The Department has amassed a large, diverse research portfolio, breaking new ground in several areas of informatics research. It’s mission is to improve the health of the population and to make biomedical discoveries using information and computational techniques. It runs a diverse portfolio of clinical applications for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, including a 5-million-patient, 12,000-user electronic health record.
