Description of Work |

Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work. Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in research via a strong publication record, aptitude to secure extramural funding, support and foster diversity, as well as a commitment to mentoring and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an independent externally-funded research program. The Bioinformatics and Genomics Department is research-intensive with both a Ph.D. program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and a M.S. program in Bioinformatics. Faculty in the Department support an undergraduate Bioinformatics Minor and Bioinformatics Concentrations within the BS and BA degrees in Computer Science. This position will work primarily at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) in Kannapolis, NC and will collaborate with faculty at NCRC, in addition to faculty on the UNC Charlotte main campus and researchers from other domestic and international research institutions if possible. |
Minimum Experience/Education |
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience |
Applicants for this position must hold a Ph.D. in the biological, computational or related sciences. We seek applicants working in any organismal system, whose research has the potential to relate to the areas of human health and nutrition. In particular, we are interested in candidates with expertise in omics approaches. |

The Department has excellent BSL-2 and BSL-3 wet lab facilities, several high-performance computer clusters, and dedicated space for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff.
