Job Summary

The Program Manager for Diversity and Outreach in the Graduate Division will support the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Learner Success in the development and delivery of programs in support of recruiting diverse learners ensuring success and the safety of well-being once they arrive at UCSF.  This position will enable the continuation of long-running and successful Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) programs such as the following:  Summer Research Training Program (SRTP), Inside UCSF, University of California’s Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degree (UC LEADS), and Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD).  The incumbent will be a strategic partner to the Assistant Dean, Diversity and Learner Success, and play a critical role in assisting in the development of new programs and initiatives, providing support for the JEDI Academic Leadership course by curating content, preparing lecture materials, and providing support for student mentorship and advising.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Graduate Division functions as the institutional home for graduate education and postdoctoral scholarship at UCSF, serves as the primary advocate for graduate students and postdocs, and strives to promote excellence in all graduate and postdoc training programs. The Graduate Division enhances access, representation, and the educational experience of underrepresented students, and develops and implements institutional initiatives to expand the pool of qualified applicants to the graduate programs and postdoctoral positions, playing a crucial role in UCSF's plan to diversify the campus community as a whole.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Five (5) or more years of related work experience
  • Strong knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word, MS Teams, PowerPoint
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programming for higher education learners, ideally with a specific focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations
  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related area
  • Strong knowledge of survey tools (Qualtrics) and Zoom
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating learner group discussions that focus on sensitive topics
  • Knowledge of grant application process and writing of applications
  • In-depth knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of complex visa and immigration policies, procedures and regulatory requirements for international students and scholars
  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership
  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences
