Associate Specialist - Minor Lab

The Minor Lab in the UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute Cardiovascular Research Institute is seeking an Associate Specialist. The candidate will engage in functional and structural studies of ion channels. Specific focus is on defining mechanisms of ion channel:modulator interactions. The candidate will be responsible for conducting structural studies using cryo-electronmicroscopy (cryo-EM) and electrophysiological studies, including two-electrode voltage clamp, of ion channels.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ion channel electrophysiology including: patch clamp of mammalian cells and primary neurons.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with structural studies using X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM.
  • Demonstrated proficiency gene cloning, mutant generation, protein expression, and protein purification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Protein Crystallography or Biology related field.
  • >5 years postdoctoral experience in the study of ion channel mechanisms using electrophysiological methods.
  • Post-graduate training in field.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $70,500 - $82,100.
