University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus' philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, and more.
The Associate Vice Chancellor - Advancement Operations reports to the Vice Chancellor and is part of her leadership team and serves on the Senior Management Team for University Development and Alumni Relations. The position oversees the finance, budget, human resources and talent management, administrative, technology and information services, development operations, facilities management, gift processing, fund administration, and stewardship departments within UDAR. The AVC is focused on maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the advancement operations within UDAR and across Berkeley writ large. The AVC leads strategic and tactical planning, priority setting, and decision making for major advancement operations projects and initiatives. The AVC is specifically responsible for ensuring that the appropriate advancement infrastructure is in place to support fundraising at Berkeley and the comprehensive Light the Way capital campaign, a $6 billion undertaking. The AVC - Advancement Operations serves as Associate Vice President of the UC Berkeley Foundation.
Directs and manages the finance, budget, human resources and talent management, technology and information services, facilities management, gift processing, fund administration, and stewardship departments within University Development and Alumni Relations.
Determines organizational structures of these assigned departments and allocation of subordinate management responsibilities.
Leads teams of other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives related to advancement operations and organizational change, both within UDAR and throughout the Berkeley advancement community.
Ensures the overall monitoring and success of assigned functions and integration of these activities with those of other major organizational segments.
Stays well-informed about issues and trends in higher education, advancement, and philanthropy.
Represents Berkeley and UDAR on national and international associations and committees.
Negotiates and directs agreements with a wide variety of outside institutions, including private vendors, the Office of the President, other universities and nonprofits, institutional and individual donors, etc.
Plans, designs and implements department programs and establishes direction, policies and procedures for departments.
Leads other senior managers to establish campus strategic plans and objectives.
Makes long-term strategic decisions regarding advancement planning that reflect upon the campus as a whole, align with the campus's financial model, and may be emulated at other UC campuses.
Serves as senior advisor to the Vice Chancellor and members of the Senior Management Team on all matters related to the broad advancement operations portfolio.
Interacts regularly with members of the Chancellor's Cabinet, Deans, the Academic Senate, ASUC and GA representatives, Division Finance Leaders, and senior leadership of the institution, on controversial situations, donor negotiations, influencing and persuading other constituents to support donor related activities and promoting the understanding of the role of philanthropy in Berkeley's financial model .

Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
