Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
The Division of Business, Creative & Performing Arts at Guilford Technical Community College seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, and collaborative legal professional/educator to join our team. Under general supervision, this person will prepare and teach legal specialty courses designed to support the Paralegal Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificate. Legal specialty courses include, but are not limited to, Civil Litigation; Commercial Law; Criminal Law and Procedure; Real Property; Family Law; Wills, Estates and Trusts; and Legal Research and Writing.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in legal research software such as WestLaw, and be prepared to integrate these technology skills into the classroom. The successful candidate will be able to teach at times and locations that meet the needs of students, and be committed to working constructively with all facets of a growing Paralegal program within a community college setting.
Education Required:
Juris Doctorate degree or its equivalent from an American Bar Association accredited law school located at a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
Admitted and in good standing to practice law in at least one state
Education Preferred:
Experience Required:
3 years of experience in the practice of law
Post-secondary teaching and/or professional training experience in legal/paralegal studies in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars
Experience Preferred:
Greater than 3 years of experience in the practice of law
Community college teaching experience in legal/paralegal studies
Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems
