About the Opportunity

The Roux Institute in Portland, Maine is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our team focused on developing novel data analytics, machine learning, and visualization tools for understanding and improving the performance of wind plants. Successful candidates will be able to leverage physics-base models and data analytics domains and will have expertise in fluid mechanics, controls and/or machine learning. Experience simulating wind turbines and plants, evaluating experimental results or processing wind plant SCADA data is desirable. Areas of research will focus on data-driven methods for evaluating wind plant flow control performance, development of novel tools for visualization of ML models, data driven approaches for evaluating wind turbine structural performance and reliability, etc. An effective research program will execute use-inspired discovery with an entrepreneurial mindset in collaboration with companies operating in this space.
Postdocs will receive formal and structured mentoring on topics including mentor/mentee research relationship, technology transfer, and proposal development.
This fellow will have opportunities to collaborate on
 existing projects and the development of new opportunities with Roux Industry Partners and federal grant opportunities. There will also be opportunities to mentor junior team members and provide educational support across the Roux Institute. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in applied engineering and science with an entrepreneurial mindset or a willingness to learn about use inspired research. As an individual contributor to the visualization research mission, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for executing and developing a research portfolio with meaningful engagement of partner organizations.



    Qualifications

    • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Engineering, Science, or related fields;
    • Research experience in engineering with a focus on wind or renewable energy analysis, experimental and computational techniques and data analytics or machine learning.
    • Experience in integrated experimental research and modeling using first principles and numerical/statistical methods.
    • Programing experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary research teams and build long-term relationships with research partners.
    • Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences and settings.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and innovative setting. Adaptability.
