Shoreline seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations and who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding.

Instructors teach college-level courses to transfer and vocational students. They also contribute to the department's efforts to improve student retention and success. Opportunities are available for teaching in learning communities, online, and in other non-traditional learning environments. In addition to teaching, this position may involve developing programs and curricula and participating in college governance, department/division, and other campus-related professional activities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's Degree in Education or related field
  • Experience teaching in a public elementary/secondary school
  • Experience supervising or working with Paraeducators
  • Significant background in Early Childhood, Special Education, ELL, Multicultural Education, Developmental Psychology, or Human Development
SKILL IN:
  • Applying Anti-Bias, Multicultural, and Inclusive practices in school settings
  • Using online tools for teaching and learning
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into teaching Education
  • Demonstrating a sound knowledge of Education in a wide range of levels
  • Adapting to a variety of higher education teaching situations, including working effectively in both the classroom and an online environments with students who have basic skills or are English Language Learners
  • Contributing to a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written English in a classroom and with other professionals
  • Working/interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Incorporating a variety of creative teaching methods to address different learning styles, learning disabilities, and English Language Learners
  • Relating to and inspiring students, ranging from reaching out to those students in need of help to challenging the best students
  • Handling difficult of sensitive situations using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines

Conditions of Employment

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed on a college campus teaching in a classroom setting that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors use computers in the work environment.

CONDITIONS:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for the assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers.

  • In compliance with the Immigration and Nationality Act, proof of authorization to work in the US will be required
  • Other conditions that may apply will be detailed upon offer of employment
Qualified applicants may be placed into a pool for a specific discipline and may be hired as openings occur. Applicants selected for interview and/or offers of employment will be contacted by the applicable division directly. Questions regarding these qualification or on specific teaching assignments can be directed to the department applicable to each discipline.
