Pikes Peak Community College is seeking an influential and dynamic leader to serve as the Director of the Simulation Center for the Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation, a new 70,000 square foot building specifically designed to promote inter-professional education. The ideal candidate for the Simulation Center Director is motivated to innovate, create and drive simulations in a myriad of health professions and create inter-professional initiatives. This person will be a forward-moving visionary with a commitment to simulation education. This person will look for opportunities to incorporate other professions within the college community and with external constituents to join in creating simulation opportunities.

Primary responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating simulation-based learning across the continuum from standardized patients through high fidelity simulators. This position requires an individual who can develop curriculum, provide simulation training to faculty and staff and forge new external relations and partnerships.

The Director at Pikes Peak Community College will be responsible for all aspects of management and operations of the Simulation Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Experience in healthcare simulation-based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety and implementation of simulation-based education.

  • Curriculum development and assessment of adult learner experiences.

  • Proven ability to run technology associated with a Healthcare Simulation Center.

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a health field from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Experience with Laerdal, Gaumard, CAE or similar equipment.

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator Advanced (CHSE-A).

  • Experience working with INACSL Simulation Design Templates.

  • Knowledgeable with simulation center accreditation.

  • Experience in healthcare management or leadership.

Essential Functions

Program Administration

  • Leads the integration of simulation and instructional technologies throughout the Medical Science programs. Mentors faculty, clinicians, and staff in the design of curriculum involving clinical simulation and ensures instruction is consistent with national professional standards for clinical practice in each Medical Science discipline.

  • Designs, implements, evaluates, and standardizes educational programs for faculty and staff development in the use of clinical simulation, debriefing, and assessment. Develops and maintains the policy and procedure manual for the Simulation Center.

  • Oversees collecting data on learning outcomes for simulation exercises and collaborations with faculty and staff on disseminating findings. Institutes continuous quality improvement strategies for simulation program improvement and facilitates comprehensive evaluations of the Simulation Center to promote growth and development.

  • Collaborates with faculty and staff in reporting of program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, external meetings, educational concerns, and student and staff successes? and maintains accreditation with the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

  • Creates and maintains annual Simulation Center budget and is responsible for Simulation Center inventory of supplies and equipment.

  • Supervises Simulation Center administrative assistant, coordinators and technicians.

Simulation Spaces and Equipment Oversight

  • Manages all simulation technology. Identifies and implements solutions to problems related to simulation equipment, computer hardware and software. Responsible for the maintenance of simulation center, manikins and equipment.

  • Oversees technical support, set-up and break down of the simulation labs. Operates computer hardware and audio-video recording systems and simulation equipment with the ability to follow medical aspects of scenario and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions. Oversees hiring and scheduling of simulation patients.

  • Provides training to faculty and staff on the operation of simulation equipment and the simulation center policies and procedures.

  • Repairs and maintains equipment as required or initiates repairs for equipment under warranty. Communicates with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates and technology changes.


  • Builds external partnerships and seeks inter-professional opportunities to enhance simulation. Provides leadership with responsibility, accountability, efficiency, integrity-based communication, problem solving, and team building with internal and external constituencies.

General Duties

  • Cultural competence and demonstrated evidence, understanding, and commitment to the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and their application in the workplace.

  • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated plan for simulation, as well as inter-professional education in all the health programs. This includes developing and maintaining strategic plans, procedures and guidelines.

  • Collaborate with faculty in developing, implementing and evaluating a plan for innovative simulated-based learning experiences across the curricula and meeting simulation accreditation, program accreditation and state board requirements.

  • Serve as the liaison to internal and external stakeholders to promote and facilitate a collaborative approach for supporting simulated-based learning opportunities for students.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate new models for managing student simulated-based learning experiences (e.g., scheduling simulations, staffing considerations, etc.).

  • Provide curricular and assessment guidance for educational activities. Oversee data collection to evaluate student learning outcomes that comply with academic standards for healthcare education.

  • Identify and recommend equipment and resources needed to facilitate effective simulation teaching and learning.

  • Actively engage, through participation and leadership in organizations such as the International Nursing Association for Simulation and Learning (INACSL), the Human Patient Simulation Network (HPSN), the Association for Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE), and/or the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

  • Develop and grow a community-based simulation plan for continuing education, including a return on investment budget.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
