POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seattle Central College Respiratory Care Program is currently seeking innovative and dedicated part-time faculty members, who have a demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds. Faculty will teach part-time in the program's clinical courses that are taught off-site at local area hospitals. Successful applicants will have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a hospital setting and in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding in an urban environment.

Under the supervision of the Executive Dean – Health and Human Services, the Part-time Faculty - Respiratory Care will be responsible for teaching part-time in the program's clinical courses that are taught off-site at local area hospitals.

Specific clinical teaching assignments will be dependent on the instructor's background and scheduling. Instructors must possess, at a minimum, a Registered Respiratory Therapist credential and be licensed as a respiratory therapist in Washington State

Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle and is subject to union shop provisions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and implement daily clinical activities that give students many opportunities to practice skills that are appropriate to their level of training.
  • Participate in the clinical scheduling process in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Education and communicate all pertinent logistical information to students in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor students in the clinical environment.
  • Evaluate student achievement of clinical goals and objectives and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Provide regular and ongoing feedback to students in order to bolster student learning.
  • Communicate with the Director of Clinical Education on a regular and ongoing basis.
  • Maintain student attendance records in accordance with established policies.
  • Prepare final evaluation and grades at the end of each clinical course to update student records and transcripts.
  • Participate in inter-rater reliability education, training, and departmental staff meetings on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist students and ensure safety precautions are adhered to.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in Washington State
  • Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a hospital setting and in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding in an urban environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds
  • Willingness to teach in a variety of formats and varied clinical times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs
  • Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs
